HOW'S FUTURE?

"Whose futures are we sacrificing in our reckless pursuit of happiness? Each time I visit a forest conservation project at the frontline of deforestation, it leaves me baffled by the scale of destruction happening around the precious rainforest that we have left.

WHY?

In "modern" times, it seems like humanity has gotten everything backward. We seek happiness outside of ourselves instead of within. We do anything to stimulate our senses and feed our desires. Rarely considering the consequences of our destructive practices. An irony that destroys the very planet that sustains us. All under the name of 'development'."

LEMON GRASS FIELD OR RAIN FOREST?

Only six months before I took this image, this land was a lush rainforest. But today, it's been transformed into a lemon grass field. Why? Because apparently, the demand for lemon grass massage oil in Europe is more important than preserving our planet's natural resources. But hey, at least those who can afford it can enjoy gentle touch. And as a bonus, the towering trees that used to provide homes for countless species have been chopped down and turned into plywood for anyone who needs a new kitchen or balcony. Isn't progress just wonderful?

YOUR TYPICAL LOGGER

It's ironic how people back home sometimes get angry and point fingers at loggers, saying, 'stop them; they should go to prison! As if it's just that simple. Loggers are often only trying to provide for their children. The legislation allowing international companies to destroy the environment without consequences is the real problem. But the truth is, we're all a piece of this complex puzzle. Every dollar we spend is a vote for the future we want. What future are you voting for?

A SOLUTION

Who knew that the air we breathe is the best product trees have ever produced? Trees have rarely been valued alive throughout history, except by some indigenous people. Instead, trees are mostly seen as a natural resource owned by humans. So how do we give them value alive? By selling the air they produce, which is a vital product. While some argue that nature shouldn't be commodified, not valuing trees alive means they only have value when they're dead.

To give nature the value it deserves, we must take steps like climate compensating for our individual and corporate footprints. It's one step towards recognizing nature's true value and we have a long journey ahead of us.
